I
started with Ivy Benson band in 1973 and went out to Jersey
to join her; I was replacing Annie Whitehead (now a very well known
Jazz Trombone player). I played throughout 1973 and left approximately
March or April 1975. I then played at Batley
Variety with the show band on many shows as a deputy trombone player
in 1975 and 1976, playing with stars such as Ken Dodd, Peter Gordeno,
Neil Sadaka, Dick Emery etc.
I also toured some theatres with Peter Gordeno
and his dancers, and spent a season with Ken Dodd in Bridlington
and also toured Malta and Cyprus with Ken Dodd in 1976.
I
did play for Ivy again early 1976 and joined her again in Stuttgart for perhaps 2 months, and also played
on the Thames Television show in 1976 which featured Little and Large
as the Stars of the show.
I
have always continued to play with dance bands and small groups since
1976 and was lucky enough to be able to join the Colin Yates Big Band
in 1987. Which has brought a wealth of experience as this is one of
the finest bands in the North of England with a very varied library.
We have backed some of the finest Jazz Musicians in the past such
as Bobby Shew, Lee Gibson, Jiggs
Whigham and Buddy Childers (on the same
stage together) the great Don Lusher (now sadly missed, a fine player and gentleman) Tommy
Whittle, Lita Rosa, Kenny Baker (sadly missed
now - what a player and gentleman) and one night we were joined on
stage by Ken Mackintosh. Many more have joined us and allowed us to
play their music.
We also continue a monthly show playing our favorite music - Big Band
Jazz.
