Eunice Cox was from Bulwell, Nottingham, born into a very musical family - her mother, Nellie, who was a talented pianist, ran her own band in the Nottingham area during the 1930's, and her younger brother Colin, ran a Big Band, playing the music of Glen Miller and Benny Goodman, amongst others from the Swing era.

Both Eunice and Colin were determined to become professional musicians, although their father would have prefered them to take up more "conventional" careers.

Eunice started off on the Violin; this was quickly followed by the Clarinet and then the Saxophone under the tuition of Jimmy Honeyman, a well known Nottingham band leader.

In 1944 Eunice joined Ivy Benson and her All Girl Band, having previously spent 18 months with the Gloria Gaye band. In typical Ivy manner, there was no formal audition - just join the band at rehersal and play along! She was successful and was soon at the begining of a wonderful seven years with Ivy, touring both home and abroad until 1951.

In 1949 the band played a season at Butlins holiday camp at Filey, North Yorkshire. Ivy and the Girls played at one end of the camp, and the Charles Amer band played at the other. The two sets of musicians soon became friends, and it was there that Eunice met her husband-to-be, Bass player Eric Davison. Four other girls met and became engaged to members of the Amer band during that year.

In 1951 Eunice and Eric left their bands, married and started a new career in the Hotel trade at Chapel St Leonards, Lincolnshire until Erics death. Eunice eventually moved into a residential care home in Chapel St. Leonards and passed away in January 2005.
