The winters were
spent touring Switzerland, Denmark & Sweden, Italy, West Berlin,
Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Fulda, Munchen, Bremen and many more
places abroad with a special tour of East Germany before the wall came
down. We went back to the Isle of Man for a special dinner/dance charity event in which Princess Anne was attending. She took a double glance when she first came on stage as nobody told her it was an all girls band providing the music; she stayed on for the dancing longer than was expected and she seemed to have a ball, I know we did. We also made many
T.V. appearances in Germany and England with Ivy's own 'This is Your
Life' programme being a real surprise.

I
started music with the school band and went on to become one of the
first girls to join the Wellesley Colliery Brass Band in Fife, Scotland.
I also played with the N.Y.B.B. of Scotland during my teenage years.
In 1965 I saw Ivy's advert for brass players in the British Bandsmen
and went over to the Isle of Man for an audition on trumpet. I was
successful and went on my first winter tour to play on the American
Bases all over Germany for the U.S. troops. Ivy's band was always
well received during these venues. (I wonder why). |
