IVY BENSON HEADS ALL-STAR VARIETY BILL. Ivy Benson, who got her "big break" with the BBC engagement in 1942, heads an all-star bill next week at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, which returns to twice nightly variety for three weeks. For three years her all-girls band played in music halls and dance halls, waiting for the chance which came during a 14 week ENSA tour of south country service camps, and made them stars almost overnight. Selection as a resident band at Broadcasting House gave Miss Benson the long planned opportunity of expanding her band and since then she has starred in variety bills throughout the country. With
her next week will be her two speciality stars, Joyce Clark and Doris
Knight, and of course, Ivy herself is an accomplished saxophonist -
taught by her father who was Trombonist in the Empire Theatre, Leeds.
