"We had to do four weeks of ENSA every year for nothing, or for
a few pounds, and the War Office they told us we'd be the first people
to go to Germany once the war was over; they fitted us out with our
officers uniforms which were a great hoot.
You can imagine all these different shapes getting into army uniforms
and flat black shoes which I hated
- it was hysterical.
Even I looked chunky with skirts all pleated and big square shoulders
but some of the girls looked hysterical and some of them looked huge;
some of the Yorkshire lasses- can you imagine Elsie Ford in an officers
uniform?
We
really had a lot of fun even though it was war time with bombing going
on."
